Mel and Sue Rohrer

Mel and I were married 47 years ago and dedicated our home to the Lord with the motto of "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You"- The Golden Rule.  Also, 1 Corinthians 13, the Love Chapter of the Bible, has been a special scripture for our family.  As our three children grew, we desired for them to experience the larger world, but Lititz was not diverse at that time (thirty plus years ago).  However, the Lord brought opportunities for us to host international students and even to host an entire family from Colombia, South America, and to take our three children to visit their family in Colombia, still a special memory for all of us. We still keep in touch with many of these students, and they fondly call us Mrs Sue and Mr Mel.

I became involved in a local mission outreach in the Warwick School District that allows students to study the Bible during the school day for one hour per week as provided through Pennsylvania State law, and have been involved with the Warwick Released Time (WRT) Program for 45 years.  It is still amazing to me that about one-third of those students are unchurched and several have never been inside a church - unbelievable, but true, even in this Bible belt area of Lititz.

The Lord brought many international students into our home through the years, and when people asked who is our agent, I would often say "God".  About five years ago, one of our former Chinese students asked us to host her sister, Amy, who was coming to the Lititz area and help find a school for her to attend.  I had worked indirectly with Rick Bernhardt through WRT and knew that he was now senior administrator at Litiz Christian School.  We scheduled an appointment and the rest is history!  Yuru Amy Zhou came from China to LC the second half of eighth grade (2015) and she is now a senior.

With the love and caring given Amy by the LC staff and her wonderful American friends from the school, we have seen Amy grow to faith in Jesus and just bloom and blossom into a very loving, caring, and thoughtful young lady who loves to help others. She has also excelled in her studies and is at the top of her class at Lititz Christian.

Mel and I have been involved in many of the activities at LC and love to give to the school that has given so much to Amy and to us.  We feel this nurturing of Amy would not have been possible at a larger school.  One great compliment Amy received was from a professor at Millersville University, where she took summer courses, who thought Amy was an ABC (American Born Chinese) since her English is so good! Mel and I traveled with Amy the summer of 2017 and met her Chinese family.  We always tell her that she is so fortunate to have two families that love her - one Chinese and one American! What a memorable trip-Amy was our guide and translator!

Lititz Christian has impacted our lives.  I am constantly impressed with the dedication, caring, and nurturing of the staff for LC students.  This encourages me in the work I do with WRT Bible classes and with our international hosting of students.  Since his retirement, Mel has also helped with the WRT Bible Program.  You chose us for the impact we have had on LC and our community but please know that you at LC have impacted our lives and we are very grateful.

We are currently in the application process to host a TOYO student at LC this April, 2019 and we are excited about this opportunity to continue impacting others for Christ.
